Letter from Rob Smith to Eagle Soccer Development Staff

Soccer Developers,

I want to thank you all for the willingness to get out with the WASA Eagles Club on a weekly basis to build into the development of the Club and Players.

We are a unique club in Central Ohio (and around the country) - A lower-cost club with HIGH LEVEL TRAINING. The WASA Eagles use fees to pay a ‘pro developer’ for 1 session weekly throughout the season. We currently have teams at all levels. The level can be dramatic between teams and ages. Several of our players have the potential to move through the different levels of US Soccer, while some may not play beyond Middle School/ High School. There is one common theme however – the players are out to have fun and improve.

My time with WASA Eagles FC started in January ’04 in as Director of Player Development. The position was created to oversee a high level of soccer development on a weekly basis, and to give direction to the club from a “players’ perspective”. OUR MAIN GOAL– to help players develop the core skills and understanding to become confident, creative risk takers on and off the soccer field (all within a fun, challenging environment).

I am thrilled all of you have shown interest of being part of our goal. Your weekly contributions are HUGE to the players, coaches, and even families involved. Imagine having a Former or Current Pro Player at your sessions on a weekly basis growing up. This is a reality for these players! Very cool…

Thanks again and I look forward to serving with all of you.

United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA), the governing body which oversees Ohio South Youth Soccer Association (OSYSA) and MOSSL, has the goal of finding the GAME WITHIN EACH CHILD…

“It takes the approach that the GAME WITHIN EACH CHILD is at the center of all beliefs, decisions, and actions taken by the child, coach, and organization. It is the ULTIMATE goal of youth soccer development within the United States to unlock the GAME WITHIN EACH CHILD to reach full soccer potential.”

PRINCIPLES OF YOUTH COACHING WITH WASA EAGLES FC-

  • Clear, concise, correct information
  • Simple to complex progression
  • Appropriate and Timely Feedback
  • A safe, appropriate training area
  • Decision making opportunities
  • Implications for the game (must include decision making - NOT coach directed)
